Scaling up Integrity Clubs to a new province

Having proved itself in South Kivu, the Integrity Club model needed to scale up. In 2021, CERC secured US$858,942 from the Global Partnership for Education, through Oxfam IBIS, for the Students Acting for Accountability and Quality Education project in Kinshasa and South Kivu.

The project creates and supports 100 Integrity Clubs in Kinshasa and maintains 50 existing clubs in South Kivu – 150 secondary schools in 6 municipalities of each province. It equips 2,250 students aged 14 to 19 with the knowledge and skills to monitor the DRC Education and Training Sector Strategy 2016–2025, so that students – especially girls – receive accountable, inclusive and equitable quality education.

To get there, CERC makes sure that students, teachers and parents can demand that the reform meets students’ needs, that Integrity Clubs are established within the education system, and that education authorities commit to quality change.

The results followed: 204 Integrity Clubs created, students trained to monitor their schools with the EduCheck app, and 33% of the problems they identified fixed thanks to their advocacy.
